While there was ample and comfortable seating in the various cars we ventured to the forward platform of the car just behind the train engine. It was perfect for sight-seeing after dining and exchanging waves with the motorists. A conversation started with a fellow "platform standee" - "Where are you from?" Reply - "Napa. We're celebrating our 25th. We've seen the train go by for years and decided to make this a very special anniversary. Wish we'd come sooner." |

Continuing a 122 year-old tradition, the Napa Valley Railroad - a switching short-line railroad - resumed freight service to the Valley in 1987. By night, the railroad is a freight hauler linking Valley industry to international markets; however, by day, it is an exquisitely refurbished passenger train offering exceptional gourmet meals and fine wines in an elegant setting. Vincent DeDomenico, Chairman of the Napa Valley Wine Train, is familiar in food circles as the originator of "Rice-A-Roni" an innovative and highly successful product from the family firm of Golden Grain. He is applying the same high standards to the Napa Valley Wine Train. |
